Nairobi County says it intends to create the largest wood furniture sector in Kenya

By targeting 27 key counties, the Nairobi City County government's aggregation and industrial parks initiative will soon establish the nation's first wood furniture business.

The production of high-quality, uniform flash doors and other products by the furniture and wood industries will be helpful, particularly when building affordable housing units in Nairobi. This will result in the creation of jobs in accordance with Governor Johnson Sakaja's Manifesto of Opportunities for All.

Acting Chief Officer for Markets and Trade Mr. Godfrey Akumali stated, "The architectural designs of the project are complete, and the engineers are now starting on the structural, civil, and electrical detailing of the designs with a set target to complete the master plan and the detailed designing before the end of August."

"The quality of products manufactured will compete at larger markets through skills development, technology transfer, training, and capacity building, which will result in more revenue for the County," he went on to say.

Among those present were Mr. Ian Mong'are from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Malie Nthiwa, Managing Director of Bola Properties, Mr. Calvin Otieno, Grants Manager at Strathmore University, and Ms. Elizabeth Njau, Director of Trade and Industries.
